Pages 279-298 | Published online: 26 Mar 2010

Summary

Microfaunal studies indicate that the marine Brenton beds, which crop out on the southern side of the Knysna Outlier, are Upper Jurassic in age, and not Lower Cretaceous, as previously assumed. In Part I of the paper, the stratigraphy and structure of the outlier are discussed, and the significance of the Brenton beds in relation to adjacent Mesozoic deposits onshore and offshore is considered. Part II gives details of the ostracod assemblage.
