BIRD DIVERSITY IN RELATION TO VEGETATION TYPES IN THE MOREMI WILDLIFE RESERVE

&
Pages 173-184 | Published online: 01 Apr 2010

Summary

Counts of birds in three distinct habitat types, viz. short flood-plain grassland, mopane woodland and mixed woodland on sandy soil, were analysed in relation to structural parameters and floristic composition of the vegetation. The integrity of the avifauna in each habitat was correlated with the distinctness of the habitat types. Avian diversity and density were correlated with both floristic and structural diversity of the vegetation.
