EFFECTIVE NUMERACY

SUMMARY

This is a report on a 2-year initiative to design and implement a university-level course in Effective Numeracy, aimed at students in the humanities who left school mathematics as early as age 14. I explain the motivation for such a course, its content, the teaching methodology we adopted, our observations and conclusions after two years, and some of the debates around the course.
