Abstract

Sixty samples of soil collected from various habitas, in some of which human mycetoma cases in romania have resided, were examined for the presence of pathogenic fungi. Two isolates of Allescheria boydii were recovered, by an indirect mouse inoculation procedure, from 2 different sites of the contry. Yard soil and animal manure samples yielded this fungus. The occurrence of A. boydii in Romanian soil supports the autochthonous nature of human cases of mycetoma.
