Abstract

Bilateral epipleural cryptococcosis is reported in a man with Hodgkin's disease. There was no pulmonary involvement by the fungus but pleural effusion was present. The organism was isolated in antemortem blood culture but could not be cultured at autopsy from the pleura after 6 days of treatment with amphotericin B and 5-fluorocytosine. The gross and microscopic morphology is described and compared with a previous case of unilateral epipleural cryptococcosis.
