Abstract

Cryptococcus neoformans was isolated from a field mouse which had been examined for suspected rabies. This is apparently the first case in the literature of cryptococcosis in a field mouse. Pigeons and their excreta were evident in the immediate area where the mouse had been found, however, samples of soil and pigeon excreta collected in this vicinity were negative for C. neoformans. The literature on cryptococcosis in animals is reviewed.
