Ulceration of the palate caused by a Basidiomycete Schizophyllum commune

Abstract

A Basidiomycete, Schizophyllum commune is reported as the causative agent of the mucosal lesion observed in a 4 month-old child. The laboratory findings as well as the microscopical and cultural characteristics of the fungus are described.

Resumen

Se presenta la historia de un paciente de 4 meses de edad con una lesión de mucosa oral y perforación del paladar óseo, causada por un Basidiomiceto, el Schizophyllum commune. Los hallazgos de laboratorio, así como las características macro y microscópicas del hongo se describen en el texto.
