Morphology of Piedra hortai

Abstract

Piedra hortai, an ascomycete causing black piedra, was studied with light and electron microscopy. The nodule on the hair contains septate hyphae, asci and free ascospores, all of which were smaller than those previously reported. A mode of spread of infection is suggested.

Piedra hortai, un ascomycète qui cause la piédra noire, a été examiné au microscope optique et au microscope électronique. Le nodule sur le cheveu contient des hyphes septées, des asques et des ascospores libres; l'ensemble est de dimensions moindres que ne l'indiquent les travaux antérieurs.
