Abstract
An extract of Candida albicans was used as an antigen on microtitre plates in the enzymelinked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) to measure IgM, IgG and IgA class antibodies in the sera of hospitalized patients. It was found that of those patient sera that reacted positively in Ouchterlony immunodiffusion (ID) when undiluted, 58% were also positive in the ELISA against the same antigen preparation. However, all the sera with an ID titre of 1:2 or higher were ELISA-positive, demonstrating especially IgG and IgA. of the sera positive by counterimmunoeletrophoresis against somatic and metabolic antigens of C. albicans, 86% were positive by ELISA. Reactions in precipitin-negative sera, if they occurred, usually demonstrated IgM or IgA. The sera with high passive haemagglutination or indirect immunofluorescence titres against surface antigens of C. albicans were positive in the IgG and IgA assays, while approximately one third were positive in the IgM assay.

Afin de mesurer les différents anticorps IgM, IgG et IgA dans le sérum de malades hospitalisés, un extrait de Candida albicans a été utilisé comme antigène dans la méthode immuno-enzymatique ELISA.
On the observé que 58% des sérums non dilués qui réagissent positivement par la méthode d'immuno-diffusion d'Ouchterlony (ID), sont également positifs par la méthode ELISA contre la même préparation antigénique. De plus, tous les sérums qui sont positifs au 1/2 ou au-dessus par la méthode ID, sont aussi prositifs per ELISA, ce qui démontre particulièrement la présence d'IgG at d'IgA. Parmi les sérums qui sont positifs par immunoélectrophorèse contre les antigènes somatiques et métaboliques de C. albicans, 86% sont également positifs par la méthode ELISA. Les réactions positives obtenues parfois avec des sérums qui sont négatifs par précipitation, démontrent généralement la présence d'IgM ou d'IgA. Les sérums présentant une forte hémagglutination passive ou étant positifs en immunofluorescence indirecte contre les antigènes de surface de C. albicans, sont positifs pour les IgG et les IgA tandis qu'environ un tiers sont positifs pour les IgM.
