For an account of these functions the reader is referred to: Ivanov (1952, 1955, and 1960), Jägersten (1956, and 1957), Kirkegaard (1956, and 1960), Hyman (1959), and Southward and Southward (1963). To these two functions a third can be added, that associated with reproduction.
