The status of Bathyporeia gracilis Sars (Amphipoda, Haustoriidae)

Pages 155-162 | Received 20 Mar 1970, Published online: 21 Dec 2011

Abstract

The haustoriid amphipod, Bathyporeia gracilis Sars, is a valid species, primarily characterized by the short antennae of the male. The species is diagnosed and partially illustrated on the basis of the male syntype, and some specimens from the Irish Sea, collected by Jones (1948). The South African specimens currently ascribed to B. gracilis, in fact belong to an undescribed species, related to B. tenuipes Meinert.
