Pages 57-60 | Received 15 Oct 1979, Published online: 14 Feb 2012

Abstract

Phallodrilus altus sp.n, is described from the Arctic deep sea (640-2470 m depth) N of Alaska. The species is characterized by very slender and pointed somatic setae heavily muscular atria, and large, conspicuous penial setae. It appears closely related to another. It appears closely (but Atlantic) deep-sea form, P. profundus COOK, 1970. P. postspermathecatus sp.n. is described from the west coast of Norway (40-80 m depth). It is primarily distinguished from all other species of Phallodrilus by its peculiar long spermathecae, which are located posterior to the male ducts, not in segment X, which is normal for Tubificidae
