The mackerel (Scomber scombrus L.), a new host for the parasitic copepod Peniculus sp., (Pennellidae)

Pages 327-333 | Accepted 05 Nov 1990, Published online: 21 Dec 2011

Abstract

A new Peniculus parasite (11.2 mm, egg strings 24 mm) is described, characterized by its club-shaped trunk, 12 times longer than wide, the invertedly heart-shaped fourth thoracic segment, and the marked constriction between the fourth segment and the trunk. It is clearly different from all other species known to the author, but its identity is left open due to the inadequacy of the descriptions available for comparison.
