Abstract

High concentrations of β-aminoisobutyric acid (BAIBA) were found to be present in the urine from patients with ketoacidosis. The R-form was always the dominating isomer of BAIBA. The finding is discussed, and it is suggested that the mechanism might be a derangement in the degradation of valine.
