Abstract
Endothelium-dependent relaxation is not fully understood in volume-dependent models of hypertension. This study investigated the relaxation mediated by endothelium-derived nitric oxide (EDNO) and hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF) in superior mesenteric arteries from reduced renal mass hypertensive rats, an experimental model for volume-dependent hypertension. Hypertension was induced in male Wistar rats by subtotal nephrectomy and salt-loading (hypertensive group). The control group comprised rats that drank tap water after subtotal nephrectomy. Relaxation of isolated superior mesenteric arterial rings was investigated at the end of the 2-week study. In high K+
