Abstract
Andersson, H., Dotevall, G., Lingaas, H. & Walan, A. 1970. Correlation between Radiological Findings in the Stomach and Duodenum and Gastric Acid Secretion in Patients with Peptic Ulcer Disease. Scand. J. Gastroent. 5, 123-128.
In a study of 119 hospitalized patients with duodenal ulcers, gastric ulcers, or deformity of the bulb, radiographic findings have been correlated to gastric acid output (after histamine stimulation). In males with gastric ulcers acid output was higher the closer the ulcer was to pylorus. Radiographic findings like the degree of the deformity of the bulb, the coarseness of the mucosa in duodenum or stomach, or the existence of transverse mucosal folds in the canalis showed no significant correlation to gastric acid output in this study. We also found that acid secretion was higher in males than in females at maximal histamine stimulation. If acid output was correlated to body weight, the difference between men and women disappeared.
