Gastric Secretion of Potassium, Sodium, Calcium, and Phosphorus Following Stimulation by Histamine and Peptavlon

In 20 patients with either a duodenal or a gastric ulcer a comparison between the gastric secretion of potassium, sodium, calcium, and phosphorus following intravenous stimulation by histamine (0.7 μg/kg/minute) and peptavlon (0.1 μg/kg/minute) has been carried out. The output of potassium showed a decrease from the first to the second hour following administration of peptavlon, but not of histamine. The output of phosphorus showed a decrease to just within the critical level following administration of peptavlon, while no such changes following administration of histamine could be demonstrated. In the case of the other ions no differences could be demonstrated.
