Abstract

Christiansen, J., Borgeskov, S., Lockwood, K. & Aagaard, P. 1970. Competence of the Cardia before and after Total Abdominal Vagotomy. Scand. J. Gastroent. 5, 217-220.

Simultaneous intraluminal pH and pressure measurements in the stomach and esophagus were carried out in 13 consecutive patients, before and after total abdominal vagotomy and drainage procedure, in order to detect possible incompetence of the sphincter of the cardia caused by the operation, fn all cases normal conditions were demonstrated pre- and postoperatively. It is concluded that the operation (total abdominal vagotomy and drainage procedure) does not systematically affect the competence of the sphincter of the cardia.
