A substituted phenylalanine derivative, 2-phenyl-2-(2-pyridil) thioacetamide ‘antigastrin’ is capable of inhibiting the acid secretion provoked by pentagastrin in the rat. The pentagastrin-’antigastrin’ molar ratio necessary for effective inhibi-tion is 2.4 - 6.104. ‘Antigastrin’ given before pentagastrin is capable of inhibiting for 180-270 minutes the effect of our test dose of pentagastrin. ‘Antigastrin’ given before pentagastrin markedly shortens the secretory response to pentagastrin.
