Abstract
Wolff, G. 1970 Does Alcohol Cause Chronic Gastritis? Scand. J. Gastroent. 5, 289-291.
The gastric mucosa of 1006 persons was studied histologically and the alcohol consumption was examined by interviews. Persons with a normal mucosa drank significantly more alcohol than persons with atrophic gastritis. Dividing the persons in groups according to drinking beer or brandy, according to age and diagnosis (diabetics, non-diabetics or intact persons) in all histological groups we found no difference as to the amount of alcohol consumed. Thus, this study did not reveal any evidence that alcohol plays some part in the etiology of chronic gastritis.
