Abstract

Cronholm, T., Norman, A. & Sjövall, J. 1970. Bile Acids and Steroid Sulphates in Serum of Patients with Infectious Hepatitis. Scand. J. Gastroent. 5, 297-303.

The concentrations of bile acids and steroid sulphates in serum of patients with infectious hepatitis have been followed by gas chromatographic and mass spcctrometric analysis. In the icteric phase deoxycholic acid was practically absent and cholic and chenodeoxycholic acids were elevated up to 50-100 times. Disappearance of cholestasis resulted in rapid normalization. Some C10O2 steroid disulphates and androsterone sulphate were slightly elevated during the icteric phase possibly due to decreased biliary elimination.
