Abstract

Gjone, E. & Blomhoff, J. P. 1970. Plasma Lecithin-Cholesterol Acyltransferase in Obstructive Jaundice. Scand. J. Gastroent. 5, 305-308.

Lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT) was assayed in plasma from patients with obstructive jaundice and found markedly reduced compared to normal controls. Dilution experiments did not favour presence of LCAT-inhibitors in plasma. Addition of taurocholic or glycocholic acid to normal plasma reduced LCAT activity but only at concentrations higher than those found in plasma of the patients. Bile salt inhibition of LCAT in plasma could not account for the low activities of the enzyme observed in obstructive jaundice.
