Abstract

Petersen, H. 1970. Relationship between Gastric and Pancreatic Secretion in Patients with Duodenal Ulcer. Scand. J. Gastroent. 5, 321-326.

The gastric secretion in response to a ‘maximal’ dose of histamine given subcutaneously and the bicarbonate secretion into the duodenum in response to one clinical unit of pure natural secretin per kg body weight, given as an intravenous injection, were examined in 30 healthy young controls and in 29 patients with duodenal ulcer. The latter secreted more acid in response to histamine and bicarbonate in response to secretin than the former. The bicarbonate/acid ratio was not different in the two groups and the bicarbonate and acid secretion was in the duodenal ulcer patients positively correlated.
