Abstract

Nygaard, K., Helsingen, N. & Rootwelt, K. 1970. Adaptation of Vitamin B12 Absorption after Ileal Bypass. Scand. J. Gastroent. 5, 349-351.

Vitamin B12 absorption from the intestine was measured using Schilling test preoperatively and at 3 months and 12 months postoperatively. Ileal bypass caused a marked reduction of vitamin B12 absorption, which recovered significantly between 3 and 12 months after operation, indicating an adaptation of absorption of vitamin B12 during the period.
