Abstract

Dotevall, G., Kock, N. G. & Walan A. 1970. Inhibition of Basal Gastric Acid Secretion in Man by Glucagon Given Intraportally. Scand. J. Gastroent, 5, 391-394.

The effect of intraportal administration of glucagon on the basal gastric acid secretion was studied in 7 patients operated on 7 days previously for gallstones or hiatus hernia. The intraportal injection of glucagon was performed into an omental vein, through a fine plastic tube positioned in the vein at the operation. In order to keep the tube patent a few ml of Ringer’s solution were injected into the tube daily. In all the patients intraportal injection of 2 mg of glucagon produced a significant inhibition of as well the volume of gastric secretion as the acid output.
