Abstract

Kronborg, O. 1970. Pre- and Postoperative Insulin Tests in Patients with Duodenal Ulcer. Comparison with the Augmented Histamine Test. Scand. J. Gastroent. 5, 687-693.

An analysis of the spontaneous, insulin- and histamine-activated gastric acid secretion in patients with duodenal ulcer has been performed before and after truncal vagotomy and drainage operation in an attempt to select the patients with recurrent duodenal ulcer. Several differences in acid secretion were found in comparing mean values, and the importance of dividing the patients according to sex and type of drainage operation was stressed. The selection of patients with recurrent ulcer by comparing mean values of acid secretion was found insufficient, and other ways of evaluating the risk of recurrent ulcer, using multiple criteria of gastric acid secretion, are mentioned.
