Abstract

Christiansen, J. 1973. Gastric Secretion of Pepsin in Patients with Primary Hyperparathyroidism before and after Removal of Parathyroid Adenomas. Scand. J. Gastroent. 8, 337-340.

Gastric secretion of pepsin was studied in 7 patients before and after removal of parathyroid adenomas. No changes in basal pepsin secretion were found, while the pepsin secretion during intravenous histamine stimulation was significantly reduced after removal of the parathyroid adenomas. Regression analysis seems to indicate a relationship between the alteration in serum calcium concentration and the alteration in the gastric secretory capacity of pepsin.
