Closs, O., Haukenes, G., Blomhoff, J. P. & Gjone, Egil. High titres of anti-bodies against rubella and morbilli virus in patients with chronic hepatitis. Scand. J. Gastroent. 1973, 8, 523-528.
The presence of rubella and morbilli haemagglutination-inhibiting antibodies was studied in 40 patients with chronic liver disease. In patients with chronic hepatitis highly elevated titres were found in 12 out of 19 patients, the geometric mean titre of antibodies against both viral antigens being about 8 times that of the control group. In contrast, normal titres were found in sera from patients with primary biliary cirrhosis, and titres were only slightly increased in patients with other types of cirrhosis. Linear correlation between viral antibody titres and IgG concentration could not be demonstrated. Possible causes of the observed high titres of rubella and morbilli antibodies are discussed.
