Arnesjö, B., Ihse, I., Lundquist, I. & Qvist, I. Effects on exocrine and endocrine rat pancreatic functions of bovine lung trypsin inhibitor administered perorally. Scand. J. Gastroent. 1973, 8, 545-554.
Bovine lung trypsin inhibitor was administered to rats by gastric intubation a) during 1, 2 and 3 weeks and b) in different doses during 3 weeks in order to study the effect on the endo- and exocrine pancreas. The following observations were made: no apparent effect on body weights was found; pancreatic size and pancreatic protein content increased after 2 and 3 weeks of treatment with high doses: after 1 and 2 weeks the pancreatic content of amylase, lipase, and trypsinogen seemed to change in order to increase trypsinogen at the expense of the lipase and amylase; after 3 weeks, however, a normalization of the relative pancreatic enzymic contents seemed to occur; after 3 weeks of treatment with different doses the insulin secretory capacity after intravenous glucose load was impaired, this effect not being accompanied by a decreased glucose tolerance.
