Abstract

Christiansen, L., Fischerman, K. & Lykkegaard Nielsen, M. Early complica-tions after surgical treatment of Crohn’s disease. Scand. J. Gastroent. 1973, 8, 651-656.

An analysis of the complications in the first 10 weeks after operation for Crohn’s disease in 68 patients is presented. 35 of the operations were primary, and the other 33 were reoperations after primary operation in other hospitals. The most frequent complications were wound infections (31 %), fistulas (29 %), intra-abdominal abscesses (21 %), and lung infiltrations appearing on X-ray (25 %). The operative mortality was 4.4 %. Complications in primary operations and reoperations appeared with the same frequency, but most frequently in patients with preoperatively existing Crohn-complications.
