Abstract

Moberg, S., Carlberger, G. & Bárány, F. Digestion and absorption in the duodenum in relation to gastric emptying in a patient with duodenal ulcer; methodological and physiological considerations. Scand. J. Gastroent. 1974, 9, 9–15.

Gastric emptying of a 300-ml liquid test meal containing fat, carbohydrate, and protein has been measured in one patient with duodenal ulcer. Digestion and absorption of the test meal in the upper small intestine have been studied at the same time. The admixture of bile, pancreatic and gastric secretions has been estimated. The technique and methods used are described in detail. It is concluded that the regulation of gastric emptying in this patient is mainly due to the digestion and absorption of fat.
