Abstract
Moberg, S., Carlberger, G. & Bárány, F. Digestion and absorption in the duodenum in relation to gastric cmpyting in patients with peptic ulcer before and after partial gastrectomy or selective proximal vagotomy. Scand. J. Gastroent. 1974, 9, 23–28.
Gastric emptying, digestion and absorption in the duodenum of a liquid meal containing protein, sugar and fat, and output of bile and pancreatic juice were studied in 16 patients with peptic ulcer before and after operation. Eight patients were operated upon with partial gastric resection and gastroduodenostomy and eight with selective proximal vagotomy. In the former group, operation resulted in decreased outputs of bilirubin and trypsin, and the amount of xylose absorbed in the duodenum was increased. In the latter group the operation resulted in a decrease in the output of bile and non-meal admixture and in the amounts of free fatty acids passing the duodeno-jejunal flexure.
