The effect of cholecystokinin. secretin, 2-deoxy-D-glucose and insulin on pentagastrin-stimulated gastric secretin was studied in 14 fistula chickens. Cholecystokinin elicited a brief but significant rise in the gastric water and H+ secretion, whereas it showed a sustained and significant inhibition of the pepsin secretion. Secretin also temporarily raised the gastric secretion of water significantly. A similar tendency could also be discerned for gastric H+ and pepsin secretion, though their changes were not statistically significant. 2-deoxy-D-glucose showed a late but significant increase in the gastric water and H+ secretion. Pepsin secretion also behaved similarly, though its rise was not statistically significant. Insulin caused a sustained and significant inhibition not only of gastric water and H+ but of pepsin secretion as well. The present findings are discussed to get some preliminary ideas about the interaction between these drugs and pentagastrin in the chicken.
