Marcussen, H. & Bendixen. G. Circulating antibodies and leucocyte migration inhibition to colon-associated antigen in ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. Scand. J. Gastroent. 1974, 9, 149-152.
The occurrence of anticolonic antibodies against mucus-containing cells of the colon epithelium, as detected by immunofluoresence technique, and of cellular hypersentivily against foetal colonic or jejunoileal mucosa extract, as detected by the leucocyte migration test, was compared in 26 patients with ulcerative colitis. 24 patients with Crohn’s disease, and 24 patients with other diseases. When simultaneously applied, the two different immunological examinations revealed a dissociation of organ-specific hypersensitivity in ulcerative colitis Anticolonic or jejunoileal humoral and/or cellular hypersensitivity was detected in 54 % of the patients, but no case of ulcerative colitis showed coexisting humoral and cellular anticolonic hypersensitivity with the methods employed.
