Abstract
Burhol, P. G. Effect of glucagon on gastric secretion in fistula chickens. Scand. J. Gastroent. 1974, 9, 411-414.
The effect of intravenous injection of glucagon on basal gastric secretion was studied in 8 fistula chickens. Glucagon caused a significant and dose-dependent inhibition of gastric water and H+ secretion, whereas its inhibitory effect on the pepsin secretion was not statistically significant. It is suggested that glucagon may inhibit by a direct action on the gastric mucosa. The possibility that glucagon-like substances released from the gastrointestinal tract may participate in the physiological regulation of the gastric secretion is discussed.
