Abstract

Gedde-Dahl, D. Relation between gastrin response to food stimulation and pentagastrin-stimulated gastric acid secretion in normal humans. Scand. J. Gastroent. 1974, 9, 447–450.

A test meal rich in solids and protein was given to 18 healthy volunteers, 9 women and 9 men. and the serum gastrin response was determined by radioimmunoassay. The response, when expressed in absolute concentrations times time, was not correlated to, but when expressed as per cent increase of fasting serum gastrin concentrations times time, was inversely correlated to the maximal pentagastrin-stimulated gastric acid secretion in the men (r = -0.7066, p < 0.05) but not in the women (r = -0.3969, p > 0.1). The usefulness of the test meal and a possible explanation of the result are discussed.
