Abstract

Stadaas, J. & Schrumpf, E. Intragastric pressure/volume relationship and gastrin release after distention of separate parts of the stomach. Scand. J. Gastroent. 1974, 9, 781–785.

Intragastric pressure and gastrin release were measured after stepwise distention of vagally innervated and completely separated fundal and antral pouches in pigs. Recordings were obtained after separate or simultaneous distention of the two pouches. Antral distention gave increased serum gastrin concentration, whereas no increase in serum gastrin concentration was observed after distention of the fundal pouch. Serum gastrin concentration increased significantly more after simultaneous distention of the two pouches than after isolated antral distention. The data provide evidence that a vago-vagal distention reflex from the fundus facilitates the mechanically induced release of gastrin from the antrum. Motility data indicate a pyloro-fundic relaxatory reflex.
