Part III: Clinical reports from the trenches

Transference and countertransference in a successful short‐term treatment case

Pages 333-341 | Published online: 17 Feb 2010

Abstract

Transference and countertransference phenomena can be exacerbated by the need to perform short‐term treatment for managed care and employee assistance program companies. Even though the eight‐session clinical treatment was highly successful, it was conducted in a manner quite foreign to the practitioner's normal way of providing therapy. That which is flexible and creative therapy and that which is countertransference is open to debate.
