Abstract
This paper focuses on the interactional, relational matrix that exists between worker and client. The special experiences the worker and client each bring to the relationship ignites and engages each of their cognitive and emotional capacities so that they respond to each other's verbal and non‐verbal cues in a very unique way. The worker must understand the “here and now,” the shared subjective experiences of worker and client within the relationship to avoid derailment of the treatment process and to ensure the client's capacity to heal.
