Scanning electron microscopy studies of antennal sensilla of Isoceras sibirica Alpheraky (Lepidoptera, Cossidae)

Summary

The carpenterworm, Isoceras sibirica Alpheraky (Lepidoptera, Cossidae), is a destructive pest affecting Asparagus officinalis L. To provide background information for chemical ecology studies, we examined the external morphology of the antennal sensilla of this pest with scanning electron microscopy. Antennae of male and female I. sibirica are bipectinate in shape, and nine morphological sensilla types were recorded in both sexes. The uniporous sensilla chaetica are gustative sensilla. The multiporous sensilla trichodea, multiporous sensilla basiconica and multiporous sensillum coeloconica are presumably olfactive sensilla. The aporous sensilla styloconica are thermo-hygroreceptors while Böhm’s bristles monitor the position of the antennae.

Etude au microscope électronique à balayage des sensilles antennaires d’Isoceras sibirica Alpheraky (Lepidoptera : Cossidae). La chenille d’Isoceras sibirica Alpheraky (Lepidaoptera: Cossidae) est un ravageur qui s’attaque à Asparagus officinalis L. Afin de fournir un fond d’informations destiné à d’autres études d’écologie chimique, nous avons examiné la morphologie externe des sensilles antennaires de cette espèce au moyen d’un microscope électronique à balayage. Les antennes des mâles et femelles d’I. sibirica ont une forme bipectinée sur laquelle on a identifié neuf types de sensilles chez les deux sexes. Les sensilla chaetica unipores sont des sensilles gustatives. Les sensilla trichodea multipores, les sensilla basiconica multipores et les sensilla coeloconica multipores sont présumés olftactifs. Les sensilla styloconica apores sont des récepteurs thermo-hydriques tandis que les soies de Böhm surveillent la position des antennes.
