SYNOPSIS

Herbicide treatments applied to stems and stumps are necessary for bugweed, Solanum mauritianum, Scop because it is not always possible to spray the aerial parts when the plants are at an ideal height. Triclopyr in diesel and 2,4-D:2,4-DP ready-to-use were effective when applied to the lower stem (basal stem method). Ringbarking was also successful. Triclopyr in diesel or water, 2,4D:2,4-DP ready-to-use, glyphosate, imazapyr and 2,4-D: picloram in water were effective when applied to the cut surface of short stumps (cut-stump method). Treated stumps died after the coppice was removed.
