The complete structural analysis of 1-[(4-methoxyphenyl)-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphe- nyl)methyl]naphtalene 5a and 1-[(2,5-dimethoxyphenyl)-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl) methyljnaphtalene 5b, prepared by alkylation of 1-[chloro-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl) methyl]naphtalene without by-products such as benzofluorene 2, may be accurately determined by 1H, 13C NMR and 2D NMR analysis.
