Mercury Sensitized Photosynthesis of Glyoxal

Abstract

The characteristic absorption spectrum of glyoxal at 455C K was observed in a flow system during the mercury sensitized reaction between acetylene and oxygen. It is shown that acetylene excited to its triplet state combines with oxygen in the ground state to form glyoxal.
