Abstract
The dimeric products formed during the homolytic methylation of the lutidines with t-butyl peroxide at 135° have been identified by gas chromatography — mass spectrometry. The 2,6- and 3,5- lutidines gave the corresponding dimethyldipyridylethanes whilst the 2,4-, 2,5- and 3,4- lutidines gave both the normal and crossed products.
