Gender-Related Considerations for Developing the Text of Art Instructional Materials

Abstract

Based on the experience and observations of a project editor in a major textbook publishing house, this article describes and explains how gender-related editorial decisions were made in the development of instructional materials for elementary art education. Theory supporting the use of unbiased language and concepts is discussed, and examples of text revision are provided.
