Abstract
In this paper, the assessment of art production through a standardized performance-based examination is discussed. Seminal issues regarding standardized assessment in the productive domain are addressed, such as alignment with the best features of performance-based evaluation and the value of a summative evaluation tool contributing to the comprehensive assessment of art education. The Dutch national standardized performance examination in the visual arts is introduced as a useful model for future development of performance assessment, with certain features of the Dutch examination analyzed as to their feasibility for art practices in the United States.
