Abstract

The management of social housing stock by balancing the housing needs of local communities plays a crucial role in the sustainable development of urban municipalities. In the present study, the management of municipal housing stock (MHS) was evaluated for compliance with sustainability principles using GIS tools. Special attention was given to the spatial, technical, tenure-related and organisational aspects of sustainable MHS management. The importance of spatial data and spatial analyses for assessments of MHS management was demonstrated. The research was based on a case study analysing MHS management in the Olsztyn municipality.

The authors would like to thank the Municipal Housing Administration Office in Olsztyn for providing information about the MHS.
