Abstract

(E)-4-Cyano-γ,δ-unsaturated nitriles were synthesized from the HMPA promoted sequential transformations of diethyl (cyanomethyl)phosphonate, potassium tert-butoxide, acrylonitrile and aldehydes in 71--83% yield.
