ABSTRACT
A practical and convenient method for the synthesis of oxabicyclo[3.3.1]nonenes has been developed using InCl3 (20 mol%) under mild conditions from aldehydes and R-(+)-limonene. Corresponding oxabicyclic compounds were obtained in high yields via (3,5)-oxonium-ene reaction. This protocol tolerates a wide range of substituents and functional groups. Mild reaction conditions, shorter time, and convenient workup makes this methodology practical.
