FeCl3 catalyzed prins cylization for the synthesis of angularly fused polycyclic scaffolds

Abstract

A catalytic amount of FeCl3 is found to be effective for the synthesis of fused furo[3,2-c]pyrano[2,3-b]chromene derivatives through a tandem Prins type cyclization. The reaction proceeds smoothly in the presence of 10 mol% FeCl3 in dichloromethane at room temperature and the corresponding products are isolated in good yields.
